Starting with Lotus Notes 8.5.1 a new dictionary engine has been introduced. The new dictionary engine no longer uses *.dic files but have to be installed using an updatesite.
Last week IBM published aTechnote on where the additional dictionaries can be downloaded and how to install them.
The Technote describes how an end-user can install extra dictionaries through the File, Application, Install menu.
I believe distributing the dictionaries through the widget-catalog is a much easier way.
Here is how to do so (as an administrator).
- Unzip the file you downloaded, you wil end up with a zip-file per language
- Unzip the dictionary files of the language you wish to install
- Open your UpdateSite database (or create one if you do not have one yet)
- Click on 'Import Local Update Site'
- Browse to the directory where you unzipped the dictionary files of the selected language and open site.xml
- Close the UpdateSite database
- Start Configuring Widgets
- Choose the 8.5.1. new option 'Features and Plugins' and click 'Next'
-
- Enter the URL pointing to the UpdateSite database and click 'Next'
- If you want your users to install the dictionary using http, enter the URL as http://.... if you want them to install using nrpc enter the URL as nrpc://...
- To find both the http en nrpc url to you UpdateSite database open de UpdateSite database and click on Actions, Show URLs..
The selected dictionaries have now been added to your My Widgets panel where you can right-click on them and publish them to the widget-catalog.
Users can now install the dictionaries by dragging/dropping the extension.xml from the widget-catalog to their My Widgets panel or you can push one or more dictionaries to your users.
